Seeder quietly ruminates about how, back in District 11, everyone assumes President Snow is all-powerful. So if he’s all-powerful, why doesn’t he change the Quell? ~ Catching Fire
To those of us who live in free nations, this quote may sound strange. Who thinks their president is all-powerful? Most of the time we rip our leaders apart for their every fault. But not all nations are free. And some, like North Korea, do believe their president is all-powerful.
So, if a president is all-powerful, why aren’t they capable of raising the dead to life? Keeping themselves alive?
Because, obviously, no man (president or not) is all-powerful. Yet, the Bible tells us that many are going to come and claim that they are God–and many more are going to believe them and place their faith, hope, and trust in them.
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. ~ Matthew 24:24 (ESV)
Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. ~ 1 John 2:22 (ESV)
So, Seeder and District 11’s thinking isn’t quite that off, is it? If we believe the Bible, then we know it isn’t. Not that we have to be afraid. I’m certainly not. Rather, we need to be aware beforehand that there are those who might trick us into this District 11 mindset. If we are aware, then we are less likely to being coerced into believing something that is false.
1 John 2:22 gives us a good test–if the person denies Jesus and God, they are an antichrist. Meaning, they are against Christ, so they cannot be Christ. But then, when Christ does return, how do we know it is him?
So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near. ~ Matthew 24:26-28 (NLT)
Continue reading the chapter for the rest of the signs, but (if I’m interpreting this correctly) Christ is coming fast. Like a flash of light. And we’ll see him in the sky.
President Snow, all-powerful? Pfft. Only God is all-powerful, and Christ through him. I don’t know about you, but the only ruler I’m putting my faith, hope, and trust in is Jesus Chrsit, the Son of God.
