Happy Star Wars Wednesday! No, I still haven’t seen The Force Awakens but: plans in place, this week there are. 😉 Until then, let’s look at a powerful quote by young Anakin in The Phantom Menace:
Queen Amidala: You’re a slave?
Anakin: I’m a person and my name is Anakin.
Labels can shackle us if we allow them. Anakin could have had the mind-set of a hopeless slave. Instead he had dreams, hopes, aspirations, and passions. Was he a slave? Yes. But mentally he was a free man.
Paul instructs followers of Christ:
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. ~ Colossians 3:22-24 NLT
When we place our trust in Christ, we are no longer whatever labels or shackles man has placed upon us. We are set free. We are a new creation.
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
“But we are descendants of Abraham,” they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son is part of the family forever. So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free. ~ John 8:31-36 NLT
This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT
You are free! Start thinking like it.
