“You can’t win, Darth. Strike me down, and I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.” ~ Obi-Wan Kenobi, A New Hope

As I was scouring for a good quote to discuss on Star Wars Wednesday, I came across this Obi-Wan line from the very first Star Wars film. As I read it, I immediately thought of,

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” ~ John 2:19 NLT

Obi-Wan introduces a concept of a person being more “powerful” in death than in life. This is not an original idea. The Bible speaks to the need for a seed to die in order to birth the crop and in order to birth eternal life…

Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me. ~ John 12:23-26 NLT

It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength. They are buried as natural human bodies, but they will be raised as spiritual bodies. For just as there are natural bodies, there are also spiritual bodies.

The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit. What comes first is the natural body, then the spiritual body comes later. Adam, the first man, was made from the dust of the earth, while Christ, the second man, came from heaven. Earthly people are like the earthly man, and heavenly people are like the heavenly man. Just as we are now like the earthly man, we will someday be like the heavenly man. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:42-49 NLT

Christ too was struck down and became vastly more powerful. Now he not only is the Son of God, but He is the payment for all sins ever committed or ever to be committed. And, he sends the Holy Spirit to all those who ask for Him, so that He can walk through this life with us.

Do you want the “Force” to be with you? No need to be born with it, just ask and He will send His Force to dwell within you. Pretty cool stuff, if you ask me. 🙂
