Happy Friday with Friends! Today we are going to look at The One with the Donor. In this episode, Monica and Chandler are presented with three options to have a child: 1. Insemination with a sperm donor 2. Surrogacy 3. Adoption. After an intense and awkward dinner interview with John Stamos’s character, Monica decides she doesn’t want a child with anyone but Chandler. He may not be perfect, but he’s the man she loves.

Chandler: So you know this leaves us with…

Monica: Adoption.

Chandler: How do you feel about that?

Monica: I think I feel ok about it. Actually I think I feel really good about it.

Chandler: Me too. I wanna find a baby that needs a home and I wanna raise it with you. And I wanna mess it up in our own specific way.

Monica: So this is it, we’re really gonna adopt?

Chandler: (smiling) Yeah.

Monica: (excitedly) Oh my God, we’re gonna be parents!

Chandler: We are gonna be great parents.

The thing is, adoption is beautiful. And the Bible speaks highly of the kind of love that leads a person to adopt a child. The kind of love that led God to adopt us. To choose us despite ourselves.

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. ~ Ephesians 1:5 NLT

God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. ~ Galatians 4:5-7 NLT

Adoption is amazing, and I can’t wait to rewatch season 10 of Friends to see it happen for Monica and Chandler!
