There is a lot we don’t yet know about the relationship/connection between Rey and Kylo Ren. But there are hints in Star Wars: The Force Awakens at similarities between these two opposed characters and the Harry Potter characters of Lily and Snape.

If you’re not a Potter fan (shame on you! JK 😉 ), Snape and Lily met as children. She was a Muggle-born and he was half-and-half but with strong purebloodist views. Snape loves Lily despite her being everything he abhors. They go to school and, though placed in opposing houses, maintain their friendship. Until one day they just can’t anymore. Lily knows Snape wants to be a Death Eater and supports Voldemort in his quest against Muggles. He even calls Muggle-borns derogatory terms. She seems to be the only exception to his hatred. And he ends up losing her to his school rival. The two graduate and go their separate ways. Lily joins the Order of the Phoenix, the group who are fighting against the growing control of the Death Eaters. Snape is one of the highest ranked among the sinister group.

In his service to Voldemort, Snape overhears a part of a prophecy. A part that he delivers to Voldemort, which makes Voldemort track down Lily and her family. Despite promising Snape that he will only kill Lily’s husband and son, he ends up killing Lily anyway. From that moment on, Snape works for Dumbledore, the leader of the Order of the Phoenix.

Darth Vader has a story very reminiscent of Snape. Some fans of both stories insist on the correlation and inspiration for Rowling to create Snape the way she did. If Kylo Ren is trying to be like his grandfather, repeating his story almost beat for beat, wouldn’t it make sense for him to follow a Snape-like path?

I think and hope so.

That brings us to who could be Ren’s Lily. Vader’s is Padmé, and to me it seems that Ren’s is going to be Rey. When I saw that scene where Ren takes off his mask for her, one of my first thoughts was, this dude looks like Snape. And the next was, he’s in love or has some feelings for Rey. Why else take off his mask for her? Why else, at the end of Force Awakens, does he try to convince her to let him teach her? Why else, doesn’t he give killing her a true effort?

My prediction and sincere desire is to see the Rey-Ren story unfold in a way similar to Lily-Snape and even a sort of reverse echo of Anakin-Padmé.
